Career plan Unit 9

  My name is Kit Farino and I'm 17 years old and I'm currently studying music production at Westminster Kingsway College. This is my 2nd year and my final one too as I look to adventure on to University. Although I have enjoyed the course this year and last I feel that I would prefer to study something else next year, between Business Law and Marketing and advertisement.

When im not in college studying music i'm either at work or trying to get work experience from law firms to studios. This is also aside work on the weekends.  I'm learning new skills everyday at college  mid week whether they are when producing or for the life after this course.

When putting my music up on sound cloud I would gain a small following of people who enjoy the tracks that I create and some who comment on them as well. They follow me on Social medias like Snapchat & Instagram and would help towards my final project as I am going to be creating a website to promote my music and the music of others.  

For my extended project I am going to be working on creating a website to promote music and media platforms of artists and myself. The tracks that will be featured will be tracks that have at least one sample involved that can be vocals, instruments or a section of the track itself (with permission) This will introduce me into areas of copyright which is a headstart to my future course which will either be music law or marketing and advertisement.

When it come to creating this website I will be focusing on promotions and being able to advertise it. This will come with allot of research in musical websites such as Soundcloud, Itunes and Spotify. As well as this being a task that I feel comfortable on, it eill also help me and give me an insight into what makerting and advertisement will include. This will also help me promote my own music in the future whether it be a small fan base to add on to my many fans! Or the website it self could take off. This will all determine on how much research I do and how much of it works.

For my final major project, I am going to create a website using the program Wix. On this website I will want to be able to promote mine and others music. The tracks I will be posting will be remixes of songs that either musicians or my class mates have made(with their permission!) The website will consist of 4 or more pages, with a variety of features on each one, from  the tracks that have been created to the social medias and sound clouds of the artists used.  When creating a website like this,  it will involve a lot of research. I have already done allot of research into what musical websites are the most popular and reasons why, what style of genre is the most successful when it comes to remixing and what instruments are mostly sampled. Each week i will keep a diary of my progress whether it's research or me producing.. There are also many questions which i will need to find the answer for like; Is the website more likely to become popular if people were able to download the tracks for free or should they be able to by them to gain some income? Should there be a separate page of the samples I used so that the audience can notice the sounds from scratch? How many tracks should I post on the website and should there be any exclusive ones? These questions will be answered along my journey as I gain a clearer idea of what would be best for me which will come with allot of research. So far my website consists of some fancy font, a dark background and Soundcloud linked just as an example of the layout. At the top there a different pages to choose from being Artists featured, media, about, epk and contact. Most of these were the selection that were given to me by default. Once i have decided what areas are going to be key for me, I will change them to the necessary headings.

When exploring the different genres that combine well with the R&B, Rap and Trap style I will focus on tracks from artists like Jack and Alex as jazz is one of the most sampled genres to switch up the style of a track. This is just from basic knowledge I have on the subject.  I have also had experience with sampling vocals, Piano samples and Guitar solos, so I feel confident in using online sources or a  classmates work. It will just determine if i stick to a genre I am familiar with or if I try and explore different ones.  So my final project is to create a website and promote tracks from myself using samples from colleagues. I will also have separate pages promoting there Soundcloud's and social medias. The research will include different ways of promoting music, different genres that work well. Another way of promoting my music could be through Youtube where other producers release there work. This will have to be thought about in the future as I'll have to learn how to use the software.
