MJ mix 2

For this second song i chose to add vocals which do actually sound quite similar to the king of pop himself. And it fits beautifully which is why i can honestly see MJ creating something along the same lines.

Ive chosen another piano to lead the main melody adding echo onto it as well. This was purely because it sounded mint when recording. I also added a choir to fill it out bait more with some chords which Micheal did for many of his songs (adding vocals for chords).
I also used the marble affect to which created a individual noise that fits in in certain places. This is because Micheal jackson did also do that in some songs in the album which was to maybe add in some noises that may have been from the music video that was created around the track.

Again when trying to make a song thats genre was based years ago, i kept struggling trying not to add in, perhaps a wobble bass which is used for current dub step or an 808 bass drum that just adds that funky vibe. These things Micheal would have never used, but i lacked a real kick in the song and i needed something to boost it so therefore i added a 'Trunk Shaker' which brings an enormous amount of base to the composition.

When listening to the full album i noticed at points that there would be a change in the main lead. So for my song i slightly switched up the strings ensemble to experiment and it did sound pretty good around the knew synths that i was experimenting with and the song itself

MJ mix 1

The two tracks I have decided to create have been based on the artist Michael Jackson and his album bad.  Although the two tracks have been based on the same thing and same person they are spectacularly different if I do say so myself.

The first of the two was an up beat trap/R&B instrumental which included A wide variety of instruments being the steinway piano with reverb, some synths and some personal creations.  When doing my research on Michael Jackson and his album bad I stumbled across a Bangel being 'Thriller' This song can also relate to mine  because of the atmosphere is set by Michael Jackson. He made one song plus a music video literally scared the life out of me and although it wasn't on the album I still have the urge  to create something similar.

To achieve this I had to go on YouTube and find some samples not being instruments  But being sound affects such as a siren at the beginning which was then 10 down and silently played throughout the song to add something I need the surface as well as the reload of a gun because it sounded cold in my opinion!

The notes that I played at the beginning of the song I'm throughout on the Steinway piano didn't accend or decend in any particular Pattern but using my knowledge of semitones on tine but using my knowledge of semitones on tones I was able to make it sound similar to a lea I was able to make it sound similar to some songs.

Also the beats Matar used was created in Ultrabeat and was put in a particular order which was similar to the song you rock my world,  it's included a snare drum, a kick drum and a high hat hat and As the song progressed  clap was introduced to the mix similar to most Michael Jackson songs

Studying Michael Jackson made me notice how music has changed over the years  and creating something which could replicate it, well I found it difficult because with every beat And  bass I put down I always felt the need to make it as much in as possible

DJ Khaled

DJ Khaled!!!

DJ Khaled is an american DJ/Rapper and also a hype man.
When mixing his gets the crown on there feet jumping and this is one of his main skills.
He has also made a name for him self by using catchy phrases that stick into the head of people and gets repeated for example 'Another one' and 'I appreciate that'

DJ Khaled uses a turn table when mixing, But like most rich DJ's in 2015 he has an impressive modern turn table that either connects to a laptop or preferably has a USB cable. This is a way that is a lot easier to find your music travel around with it and also use perhaps pre recorded tracks.
When listening to DJ Khaled perform it is actually quite a lot to take in because of the so many different things that he doing. Also DJ Khaled features in quite a few music video's where he is DJ'ing.
DJ Khaled isn't one of the most inspirational DJ's but he does make lots of different types genres so he has got a larger range audience to appeal to.

The main genres that DJ Khaled works with are rap, R&B and also hip hop. These are all types of music that can be hyped up on a night out and also spoken over which is another key attribute of his.
They are all also similar in the instruments used to create the tracks and how to mix them because other then the occasional song with maybe 140bpm instead of the rest being made around the 120 mark they can fade into each other and mix drum beats ect...
Watching him perform is obviously an amazing atmosphere but also quite humorous because of the image he has made himself which is not only and icon but slightly a joke...

perfomance

Yesterday I watched a number plays performed by music, dance and other perfomance students.

The play was based on ancient greek times where slaves what discussing how they work and how they fight for the Queen and King.
I feel that this was a really creative whether it was intensional or not by getting more then one group to perform the same piece. I enjoyed this because i got to see how the two groups had different interpretations of the acts.
For example there was one group where the woman had known that her son had died, she was mortified and couldn't believe what she had been told and struggled to give orders to the guards.

Then there was the other group where the woman had accepted it an gave orders about what to do without hesitating.
The groups continued to impress me with there body language and use of voice control;
No one turned there back to the audience and everyone was loud enough to hear but no one shouted unless there was an anger scene. These performances were  clearly worked on and this was evidential by the way that every one had an idea where the rest of there members were on stage.

I was sat towards the back on the last row and although i was among the shadows, I still felt as if i were sat at the front because of the way they played it out. At times a few members of the audience decided to shout amusing things out during silent periods of the play, but Nearly every one of them stayed composed and held a straight face. When moving the props on and off the stage  i felt that it was awkward and frustrating because of the pace of it all and the man behind me shouting to make them speed up (although it was for the best!)

At the end of the performance it was given a good standing ovation because of the class of it. Everyone performed well with no exceptions. Id give it a cheeky 8/10

Abbey Road

Abbey Road

In 1969 the four members of The Beatles created a landmark album that was a very popular of its time. This album was recorded and produced in London, at Abbey Road Studios.  The album includes a mixture of songs written by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison.   John Lennon and Paul McCartney mainly credited each other to be the main composers (but you can tell their individual styles apart).

The album was very diverse and almost sounded as if the band were about to fragment, because of the separate styles in the music and, interestingly, The Beatles split up in the following year.  The two songs I've decided to analyse are & Maxwell’s Silver Hammer and & Come Together.

I chose these two songs because I enjoyed the way they experimented with the percussion. It's difficult to judge the album objectively as it isn't in my personal collection, but I can appreciate Abbey Road for being a landmark album.   I also appreciate the craft and skill that was put in by George Martin, as this was already a time when The Beatles had decided to refuse to perform live, so in this album they were able to introduce more affects without worrying about the practicality of it when performing.
This includes the distortion on the lead guitar played by George Martin and some delay on the vocals of John Lennon in the song Come Together.Come Together begins interestingly with a vocal percussion affect which enables the bass to standout.

As the first verse begins, more drums begin to drop in, such as the floor tom-tom and some hi-hats. The pace of tthe drums starts to increase until it reaches a sudden stop for half a bar, ended with a hi- hat. Then suddenly when the chorus starts, the bass guitar stays at the same level as it originally was, but the electric guitar increases in volume with a small compressed drum beat behind it. The length of the chorus is very short and I feel that this was done on purpose to be individual, as was the whole album. .  After the second chorus there is an electric piano solo that then leads onto a slide solo being played by George Harrison. The drum beat then becomes out of sync and starts to play hi-hats constantly, without a bass drum or a snare drum.  Finally, the lyrics of Come Together are slightly ironic as the band does separate in the following year which is 1970 and you can almost tell this because the album is very disparate.

The second song I have chosen is Maxwell’s Silver Hammer which was most likely written by Paul McCartney. This composition was a very whimsical late 1960s song and was very much of its time.  It begins with a piano and a tuba with a simple drum beat and a soft voice.
The mood of the song is very jolly at the beginning, but then becomes slightly rough as a distorted electric guitar then comes in for the chorus with a hammer sounding piece of percussion. A synth or mellotron then appears towards the end of chorus, but it was most likely to be a mellotron as this instrument was a key feature in the Sargeant Pepper album.
The lyrics are very twisted, even though the mood of the song’s melody is very calming especially with the smooth synth at the end that comes to a sudden stop.

I enjoyed these two songs on Abbey Road, although they were the only two. I found the album complex as well as incredibly uniquee and I do understand why The Beatles were so big then and still are now.

Skills Audit

Skills Audit

Music Skills

When I am either working in either a pair or group I feel that I listen well to other members and contribute a large amount to each project that we are asked to work on.
I may ask for help from other members in the group for example I only recently learnt from another partner how to quantize a track without doing it individually.
Although this was a basic skill that I learnt I feel that logic is one of my main strengths and I feel far more confident working on the application rather then theory work on certain topics.

When composing I try hard to use the keyboard as much as possible to make my music sound to sound as varied as possible. When trying to this I also do struggle when playing the keyboard when learning scales.

This is because I am not the most confident when playing that instrument, so this could be a skill that I practice at  home.

I feel when it comes to DJ'ing I am inexperienced and lack knowledge on the instrument. But when discussing this and also the music industry I feel relevant when contributing the industry because of the music I buy, the concerts I got to and the way I promote certain songs that interest me.

Life Skills
When it comes to punctuality I feel that I am often on time, but  occasionally I may forget something like my student id or my oyster which occurred today where I was left looking for my student id. This and attending lessons is very usual to me where I will attend all lessons as soon as I can.
This is also because I am intrigued when it comes to music and I enjoy it at home as well as college so I have no reason because I enjoy the subject massively

Also every one who is doing the course have the same interests as me because they are learning the same things as me and have decided to study music. so when we talk we all have lots of things in common to discuss and banter about.

I have concluded that when it comes to music skills I am stronger in that are. But when theory is included and other elements of maybe instruments I feel that I am at a disadvantage. although I make up for it when composing on logic an attending lessons regularly.
